Slow start to the season, plagued with 3 injuries (Linley, Daniel and Peter) before the match ... and then David injuring his ankle, makes it 4. New team member Ramsey was a welcome addition. |

Two new players Ben and Cameron welcomed on-board this week. Greatly needed, especially now that Mark has injured his hand, meaning that we've got 5 players on the bench :( Note: A hand injury didn't stop Mark from scoring ! Gave the opposition a head-start. Got it together in the middle. But, lost ground again at the end. |

We got off to a slow start 0-6, 8 minutes in and it looked like we were in for a drubbing with the turnovers happening all too often. But then Jason does what he does best - put Centro Boomers points on the board and it was game on. At half time we were down by 5 points, but we could sense they were buckling. Their star shooters from the previous game #7 and #5 had been well guarded. The second half commenced well as we got the first 2 points. Geoff started sinking them and was strong under the basket, Cam followed up with a fast break lay up and like Jason tried to take a specky, Mark was great in defence and used his body well against the very physical team, Ramsey defended well and added some humour with a footy like tackle on an opposition lay up and the fisting of the ball out of the pack. The scoring from the bench (opposition) left a bit to be desired with confusion on the scoreboard clock. With 20 seconds to go and both teams with 8 team fouls, we appeared to be 1 point up with 20 seconds to go before the ball was snatched away by the opposition #7 for a successful shot. The siren sounded and we all congratulated each other on a great team game. We then heard in fact the score was in our favour and we had actually won 27-26. But after a review by the ref, we had in fact lost narrowly to the Vales 25-26, so our winning feeling was short-lived. However we still had a wry smile on our faces as by this time the Vales had left the court with heads down believing they had lost to the superior team. It was a enjoyable team game, but also a physical one, with all of us most probably feeling a bit sore in some places this morning. The 6 who played last night have probably asked the question to themselves since , "if I........then....." But as we know there is always next week. |

Real Men (1) |
26 - 32 |
Last night, Centro Boomers 26 to Real Men's player #9 24. Unfortunately the team Real Men scored 32 to defeat Centro 26. #9 for Real Men was just too good, despite my own attempts of standing on his feet, lifting the knee in rebounding, intentionally fouling (missed by the ref) he was just too good for both teams. Scores late in the second half were level at 22 each, before we nudged ahead by 2 points, but then, damn it -#9 reappeared. We should have won with 6 players to their 1+3, but there were some highlights worth mentioning; Cam's unorthodox vertical score underneath the basket (almost touching the roof), Mark's incredible defence - dignified with 5 worthy fouls, Ben's drive down the guts of the key to score in tough defence, Dave's 3 pointer and almost several others (welcome back) and the usual spectacular magic of Jason scoring 10 points. Next week we should be stronger with Rams and Geoff to return against the Vales. You may remember we lost to the Vales by a point, although the Vales thought differently, leaving the court before the refs finalised the sheet - so we have the psychological advantage. We will need to guard #7 and #5 though to win. |
